The Client

Dedicated to experimentation and instruction, MIT Nano represents one of the largest commitments to research in MIT’s history. The facility will carry the last two decades of nanoscale characterization and investigation into new realms of application and discovery.

The Solution

The team installed MV and LV power distribution systems, a fire alarm system, lighting fixtures, and branch circuitry to power devices and mechanical equipment. This included installation of two floors of high-performance, pristine, particle-free environment clean rooms. Each level is two stories tall and optimized for energy, airflow, and future flexibility, which is to be used for the design and fabrication of future micro- and nano-scale structures. The team created spaces for prototyping and packaging synthesis, imaging and microscopy, materials and thin film growth, and numerical design. The building is the most environmentally quiet space on MIT campus, a basement level optimized to meet the most stringent nanoscale imaging requirements for low-vibration and low electromagnetic interference.
