The primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine, BMC is the largest safety net hospital and busiest trauma and emergency services center in New England.

The Project

The project included a three-story core/shell addition to the Menino building, with one floor of emergency room fit out, and the core shell of a new nine-story ambulatory building with power, emergency power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, inter-building power, and fire system. The nine-story, 250,000 square foot building is located on Albany Street, and will consolidate many of Boston Medical Center's outpatient services. The building contains an exam room, clinical labs, MRI suites, office suites, support space, and a café. The project also included a two-story, 20,000 square foot expansion of the Menino Pavilion to house patient observation units and MRI stuites. Prior to construction of the new center, the existing facility was demolished and the RDK project team relocated the previous building’s utilities into the basement of the Menino Pavilion.

The Execution

The SullyMac team provided lighting systems and 15kV power to new buildings. The team installed fire alarm systems, two 500kW generators, 150 panelboards, 12,000 miles of cable, and 2,400 light fixtures.
